Australian Orchids
Australian Orchids are among the hardiest and drought tolerant plants on earth. Most occur in the temperate forests of the "Great Dividing Range" that runs the entire length of the eastern coast of Australia at altitudes from sea lever to 1500 meters.Temperatures range from freezing to 45.Celsius.
With its irregular rainfall most have adapted to obtaining what ever water is available and usually store it well away in their leaves, stems and fleshy roots for drier times.
There are four main varieties that are cultivated by collectors and these are the following.
- Australian Dendrobiums, many of which have been given new Genus names, but for basics well stay with Dendrobium.
- Australian Dockrillia, which are terete or rolled/straw like  leafed forms of Dendrobiums
- Australian Sarcochilus, lush, moist loving monopodial growers for darker growing areas.
- Australian Cymbidiums, that are generally difficult to obtain.
Over the past two and half years we have drafted a new book on Australian Orchid Growing. It is greatly expanded on anything we can fit here so we strongly suggest you have a look.
It has 77 pages in full glossy color and is extremely well priced. It is available both retail and wholesale direct from us only.
